Comments

When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from a commentors email address (hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if they are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of a comment, the commentors profile picture is visible to the public in the context of the comment.

Media

If a user upload images to the website, users should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If a commentor leaves a comment on our site, a commentor may opt-in to saving their name, email address, and website in cookies. This action allows convenience for commentors who do not have to fill in their details again when leaving another comment. Cookies last for one year.

When a visitor visits our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if the browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when the browser is closed.

When a user logs-in, we set up several cookies to save their login information and their screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If a user selects “Remember Me”, their login will persist for two weeks. When a user logs out of their account, the login cookies will be removed.

If a contributor/writer edits or publishes an article, an additional cookie will be saved in their browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article they just edited. It expires after 1 day.

If a user leaves a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This action is to help admin recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our website, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.

What rights users have over their data

If a user has an account on this site, or left comments, the user can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data the user has provided to us. Users can also request we erase any personal data held about them. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
